About BAM House
WHY BAM HOUSE
I started playing mahjong during a really difficult time in my life. I didn’t realize it then, but I needed community more than ever, and mahjong gave me a place where I could simply come as I was.
If I wanted to talk and connect, I could. If I needed to be quiet and lose myself in the tiles, I could do that too. For a few hours, I could place the troubles of the world into the game, then wash them away and begin again with the next round. When I lost, I could say, “It just wasn’t in the tiles,” and let it go, something I struggled to do in real life.
BAM House is deeply personal to me. Mahjong is sometimes presented as exclusive or posh, but I believe it should be welcoming and accessible. Everyone deserves a little calm in the middle of the storm.
I created BAM House to bring community to places where it may be missing, to meet people exactly where they are, and to give them a place at the table. We may not solve everything over a game of mahjong, but for a couple of hours, we can find connection, comfort, and perhaps even a solution in the tiles.
